The South Korean men’s sabre fencing team won a gold medal in the team event final at the 2024 Paris Olympics today (1st), drawing attention to SK Telecom, which has been sponsoring fencing.
SK Telecom has been supporting the fencing sport for over 20 years since taking over as the chairman of the Korean Fencing Association in 2003.
The cumulative amount of support for fencing through organizations such as the Korean Fencing Association amounts to approximately 30 billion won.
SK Telecom supports overseas training and international competitions for national team athletes and has been hosting the ‘SK Telecom Grand Prix Fencing’ competition in South Korea annually since 2004.
Especially for the Paris Olympics this time, SK Telecom built a competition field (piste) with the same standards as Olympic venues at the Jincheon Athletes’ Village and provided training under the same conditions with crowd cheers and stadium lighting.
They also sent a separate dedicated team including seven training partner athletes and an obligation trainer to Paris, as well as increased support by dispatching a performance analyzer. Additionally, they arranged for daily lunch boxes to be delivered to the athletes with Korean food near the Champs-Élysées in Paris.
Choi Shin-won, former CEO of SK Networks and current chairman of the Korean Fencing Association, visited the fencing competition at the Paris Olympics to support the athletes throughout the games.
