Samsung Electronics announced on the 9th that it will be running a beta program for ‘One UI 8.5.’ According to Samsung, the One UI 8.5 is based on the existing One UI 8 and is characterized by enhanced AI functionality and device connectivity. The One UI 8.5 beta program will be available in six countries: Korea, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Poland, and India, targeting Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra users.

Users who want to participate in this beta program can apply through the ‘Samsung Members’ application on their Galaxy smartphones. Samsung plans to enhance the completeness of the official version of One UI 8.5 based on user feedback from the beta program.

First, One UI 8.5 has been improved to allow users to create and share content more conveniently. The AI-based image editing feature ‘Photo Assist’ reduces the hassle of the editing process. Users can edit images without interruption by using features such as ‘Generative Editing’ and ‘Portrait Studio,’ eliminating the need to save at each step.

The usability of the image editing history has also been improved. Previously, only a ‘Undo’ function was available in AI image editing history. But in One UI 8.5, users can selectively reflect or remove edits made at specific stages.

The ‘Quick Share’ content sharing feature has also been enhanced. When users link portrait photos saved in the gallery with contact information, the feature recommends sending the photos to people included in the photograph.

Additionally, One UI 8.5 enhances integration with various devices and Galaxy smartphones. It introduces a new ‘Audio Broadcast’ feature, allowing voice transmission to nearby audio devices via Galaxy smartphones. Once connected to a nearby ‘LE Audio’ device, users can speak into the smartphone’s built-in microphone, and the connected LE Audio device will play the audio in real time. LE Audio is an audio standard capable of connecting multiple devices simultaneously while operating with low-power Bluetooth technology.

Furthermore, with the ‘Shared Storage’ feature, users can access files from other Galaxy devices like tablets and PCs on their smartphones. Using the ‘My Files’ app on smartphones, users can access files, images, and videos stored in nearby Galaxy devices.

Moreover, the existing ‘Stolen Device Protection’ feature has been significantly upgraded. Samsung has introduced an ‘Authentication Fail Lock’ function that automatically locks the smartphone if it’s misplaced or stolen with the screen turned on.

The official version of One UI 8.5 will be installed starting with the Galaxy S series, to be released in the first half of next year. Samsung plans to successively apply it to already released Galaxy devices thereafter.
