**The Global GPA to Be Held from the 15th:**
The largest global privacy assembly, the Global Privacy Assembly (GPA), which includes participation from 148 data protection authorities across 95 countries such as South Korea, the United States, and the European Union, will be held in Seoul for five days starting from September 15. This is the second time the assembly will be held in Asia after Hong Kong in 2017, but it’s the first time it will be hosted at the national level.
**Diverse Events alongside the Conference:**
According to the Personal Information Protection Commission, around 1,000 participants are expected at this assembly. Besides the main conference, various accompanying events like Open Source Day and the Joint Academic Conference will take place. Global tech giants like Google, Microsoft, Meta, OpenAI, and Naver, along with international organizations such as the OECD, UN, World Bank, and UNICEF, as well as NGOs and academic experts, will gather for the event.
**Global Privacy Issue Discussions:**
The assembly will feature extensive and in-depth discussions on privacy issues in the AI era across different sectors and industries. The commission plans to use this opportunity to shift the global discourse on privacy issues, which has mainly taken place in Europe and the US, to Asia, with the aim of establishing global norms and securing leadership for South Korea.
**Open Source Day on the 15th:**
On Open Source Day, companies like Google, Microsoft, Meta, OpenAI, and Naver will share strategies for using AI open source. There will also be a roundtable discussion between regulatory bodies from countries like the UK and Italy on “Open Source Ecosystems and Privacy.” The “KCPO Privacy Protection Joint Declaration,” containing seven key practices for a safe AI ecosystem, will be announced, highlighting the roles and responsibilities of Chief Privacy Officers (CPOs).

From the 16th, over the following four days, there will be five keynote speeches and 20 panel discussions. The core themes include global AI data governance, agent AI, technologies for enhancing privacy, privacy for children and adolescents, cross-border data transfers, and bridging gaps between regulatory bodies. Around 120 panelists will participate in discussions aimed at balancing AI innovation with privacy protection. Additionally, the event will feature an exhibition space showcasing the latest technology from eight companies, such as Samsung Electronics, LG Uplus, Google, Toss, DeepBrainAI, and Flitto, highlighting Korea’s AI ecosystem and cultural competitiveness.
