OpenAI announced on the 28th that it will fully launch its support for domestic creators by opening the ‘Creative Lab Seoul,’ a support program for local creators. OpenAI is the developer of ChatGPT.
Creative Lab is a global program operated by OpenAI to support artists, designers, and creators worldwide, and ‘Creative Lab Seoul’ is the first of its kind in Korea. The launch of ‘Creative Lab Seoul’ is expected to be a pivotal point in helping Korean creators take a more proactive role on the global stage.
A total of 21 artists will participate in this program, working on projects for a month using OpenAI’s latest video generation tool Sora and ChatGPT Imgen. OpenAI provides participants with early and free access to tools, practical learning support, global creative community exchanges, and opportunities to present their work.
Through this Creative Lab, OpenAI aims to implement four core values: Creator-Centric Principles (ownership of work always belongs to the artist), Transparency and Trust (clearly disclosing the capabilities and limitations of tools), Community-Centric (building a sustainable network), and Practical Support (providing immediately applicable step-by-step know-how).
Jake Wilczynski, Head of Communications for the Asia-Pacific region at OpenAI, stated, “When artists lead and tools follow, an entirely new form of creation emerges,” adding, “Creative Lab was created to realize this philosophy and will actively support Korean creators to expand their creativity and impact on the global stage.”
Seoul is one of the most dynamic creative communities in the world and has the highest number of global Sora users. Through the launch of Creative Lab Seoul, OpenAI announced its intention to build trust with Korean creators and strengthen long-term partnerships. It also plans to support various programs such as exhibitions and collaborations in the future.
