OpenAI has launched a web browser called ‘ChatGPT Atlas’, challenging Google Chrome.

**Expansion Planned from macOS to Windows, iOS, and Android… Alphabet’s Stock Drops**

(Los Angeles = Yonhap News) Correspondent Lim Min-a = The developer of ChatGPT, OpenAI, launched its first AI-based web browser on the 21st (local time), challenging the dominance of Google Chrome.

OpenAI announced the launch of its self-developed web browser ‘ChatGPT Atlas’ through its website, X (formerly Twitter) account, YouTube channel, and more.

OpenAI described, “A browser is where all your tasks, tools, and context come together,” and introduced the browser built with ChatGPT as “a step closer to becoming a true super assistant that understands your world and helps you achieve your goals.”

According to the company, ChatGPT, through Atlas, navigates the entire web, providing assistance directly in the window the user is viewing, understanding the user’s intent, and completing tasks without ‘copy-pasting’ or leaving the page.

Furthermore, it retains past conversation details through the embedded ChatGPT memory to assist with new tasks.

For instance, if you request, “Find all the job listings I looked at last week and create a summary of industry trends to help me prepare for a job interview,” Atlas will perform this task leveraging browser memory, according to the company.

However, the browser memory of Atlas is entirely at the user’s discretion, with settings allowing users to control it as desired and delete records at any time, the company added.

OpenAI announced that ChatGPT Atlas would be available on macOS from today and is set to expand to Windows, iOS, and Android operating systems soon.

This browser launch means OpenAI will directly compete with rivals like Google’s Chrome and Perplexity’s offerings.

Perplexity made its AI browser ‘Comet,’ which debuted as a paid product in July, available for free recently, while Google fully integrated its AI model ‘Gemini’ into the Chrome browser last month.

Gemini, integrated into Google Chrome, supports access to services like Calendar, YouTube, and Maps without switching to other web pages.

However, the launch of OpenAI’s browser, recognized as a major player in the AI industry, could pose a threat to Google, which has long dominated this market.

On the New York Stock Exchange, Alphabet’s shares fell over 4% in the morning but pared some losses in the afternoon, closing with a decline of about 1%.
