LG CNS establishes Robotics Lab to accelerate physical AI business.

**Development of AI Models for Robots**

LG CNS has established a dedicated robotics organization to seize the ‘Physical AI’ market, emerging as a key next-generation artificial intelligence (AI) technology. The company plans to accelerate its global business expansion by focusing on developing the ‘Robot Foundation Model (RFM),’ which serves as the brain of robots, and offering an integrated service for industrial AI robots.

According to the IT industry on the 22nd, LG CNS recently reorganized by establishing a specialized robotics technology research lab, ‘Future Robotics Lab,’ under the Chief Technology Officer (CTO). The goal is to enhance their robotics transformation (RX) capabilities. This organization is tasked with research and development across the entire cycle of technology required to implement Physical AI, including RFM, intelligent robot hardware, simulation technology, and industrial data processing platforms. Physical AI refers to AI embedded in physical devices like humanoid robots. RFM is a universal AI model that learns large-scale sensor-based language, video, and image data, enabling robots to autonomously make decisions and operate in various environments.

Through the ‘Future Robotics Lab,’ LG CNS plans to offer customized optimized RFMs for corporate clients across sectors such as logistics centers, smart factories, and smart cities. The company is also building a robot AI platform that allows businesses to independently manage and operate RFMs. This platform encompasses an integrated system from data collection and refinement to simulation-based fine-tuning and the operation and monitoring of trained models, allowing businesses to run RFM independently.

Moreover, the ‘Robot Services Offering Team’ under the existing Smart Logistics & City Division has been renamed as the ‘RX Innovation Team’ with an expanded role. Based on the robotic service capabilities LG CNS has secured, such as warehouse automation, AI picking robots, autonomous mobile robots (AMRs), and automated guided vehicles (AGVs), the company intends to expand into multiple domains including finance, distribution, and public services. Recently, LG CNS has also entered into a strategic partnership with the US AI robotics startup Skilled AI to start developing industrial AI humanoid robot solutions based on RFM.
