(Seoul=News1) Reporter Kim Seung-jun = The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 19th that it hosted the ‘2024 Comprehensive Meeting of Major Scientific and Technological Societies’ by inviting over 100 presidents of major academic institutions in the field of science and technology in Korea.

At this meeting, the Ministry of Science and ICT presented the “Direction, Current Status, and Future Direction of R&D Innovation,” which was prepared based on suggestions and proposals gathered from academic societies this year.

During the presentation, issues such as the enhancement of research stability, predictability, R&D efficiency, and strengthened communication with the field, which are necessary for transitioning to a leading R&D system, were shared.

In addition, the National Research Foundation of Korea introduced the ‘Results of the Operation of the Open Planning System with Societies and Further Development Plans,’ while the Ministry of Science and ICT presented the ‘Direction of Basic Research Projects for 2025.’

Following this, there was a time for exchanging opinions and Q&A between the Ministry of Science and ICT and the academic societies.

Lee Chang-yoon, the First Vice Minister of Science and ICT, stated, “In the current situation where we face domestic and international crises, it is a time when we must more fiercely gather serious thoughts and wisdom for the future,” and added, “The government will strive steadfastly to lead efforts to bring about substantial change in the field.”
