[Seoul Economic Daily] On September 5th, Naver Webtoon announced that Kim Kyu-nam, its Chief Risk Officer (CRO), received a commendation from the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism at the ‘8th Intellectual Property Day’ ceremony. The Minister’s commendation is awarded to individuals who achieve outstanding results in the fields of culture, art, and content copyright.

The Intellectual Property Day ceremony is an event held annually on September 4th, organized by the Presidential Commission on Intellectual Property and the Ministry of Science and ICT, to award individuals and organizations that contribute to the creation, protection, and development of intellectual property. Since joining Naver Webtoon in 2018, Kim CRO has been recognized for his pivotal role in establishing policies for content protection, overseeing legal and policy matters.

Kim CRO has led Naver Webtoon’s specialized “Anti-Piracy” team, implementing technological, legal, and policy measures to protect copyrights. Since 2020, he has also been serving as a director at the Copyright Overseas Promotion Association (COA), actively participating in global initiatives to tackle the illegal distribution of webtoons. In March this year, he spearheaded Naver Webtoon’s membership in the global copyright protection organization ACE (Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment), enhancing its capabilities in combating illegal content distribution.

Kim CRO expressed his gratitude for the teamwork within Naver Webtoon’s anti-piracy efforts, stating, “I deeply thank all my colleagues working in the anti-piracy field at Naver Webtoon. I will continue to work hard to create significant examples of rights enforcement, ensuring that the efforts of creators and industry workers are not in vain.”
