On the 27th, Kakao announced that it will collaborate with the Netflix series ‘Squid Game’ Season 2 to conduct a character collaboration.
This collaboration brings together Kakao Friends and ‘Squid Game’ Season 2, Netflix’s all-time popular series. Before the official launch, the character ‘Chunhee’, a transformation of Chunsik into Younghee, was pre-released on social media (SNS) and received significant attention. Notably, Chunsik’s appearance at the ‘Squid Game’ Season 2 World Premiere event held at Seoul DDP on December 9th also made headlines.
On the same day, Kakao released a brand collaboration video featuring ‘Chunhee’ through the ‘Profile Full View’ section of the KakaoTalk profile update area, marking the start of the ‘Chunsik Game’. Additionally, Kakao plans to sequentially introduce game-style content using various services and features such as mini emoticons, KakaoTalk gifts, #(hashtag) search, Pong, and Talk Channel. The video will be available for viewing on Kakao Friends’ official SNS channels, with new content being released daily until January 4th to continuously engage users and capture their interest.
Along with this, collaboration goods will also be launched. The goods include ‘Chunhee’ and ‘Player Ryan’ dolls, keyring dolls, socks, t-shirts, decorative stickers, and more, totaling 13 types. These can be purchased online and offline at Friends Shop, KakaoTalk gifts, and Musinsa. All stores, including the Kakao Friends flagship stores in Gangnam and Hongdae, will be revamped with the collaboration theme, offering an immersive experience that feels like participating in the actual game.
From this day, KakaoTalk gifts feature a ‘Chunsik Game’ special exhibition, showcasing 14 types of ‘Squid Game’ Season 2 collaboration products from 11 brands. These include exclusive items available only through KakaoTalk gifts, such as an Instax Mini 12 package, Cheong Kwan Jang’s Vitality Booster 3X, Volvic golf ball set, Legote tumbler gift set, cargo container camping equipment, and Oxford blocks.
A Kakao representative said, “We have prepared a variety of content to offer a unique experience of ‘Squid Game’ Season 2 through KakaoTalk and Kakao Friends, blending digital and offline experiences,” and added, “Kakao Friends plans to expand the brand’s reach through collaborations with various global intellectual properties in the future.”
