In the second quarter, 76% of smartphones sold in the domestic market were from Samsung Galaxy… iPhone market share declined.

According to a market research firm, Counterpoint Research, three out of four smartphones sold in the domestic market in the second to fourth quarter of this year were Samsung Electronics products. Samsung Electronics achieved a market share of 76% in the domestic market during this period, driven by its mid-range smartphones. Compared to the same period last year, Samsung’s market share increased by 2 percentage points. In contrast, Apple’s iPhone market share decreased by 2 percentage points compared to the previous quarter, reaching 22% in the second to fourth quarter.

Counterpoint Research stated that the domestic smartphone market in the second to fourth quarter experienced a slight decline compared to the same period last year due to insufficient replacement demand. Samsung expanded its market share by releasing mid-range models such as the Galaxy A15 and Galaxy Buds3. The early release of the Galaxy S24 series in the second to fourth quarter resulted in lower demand for smartphone replacements.

Furthermore, Counterpoint Research mentioned that Apple’s sales continued to decline due to its high average selling price and pre-release demand for the new models. Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 16 series at an event on the 10th of next month, with expectations that South Korea will be included as one of the first launch countries. Many users are eagerly waiting for the iPhone 16 series as a result.
