(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Choi Hyun-suk: On December 9th, the Ministry of Science and ICT, along with the Korea Industrial Technology Association, announced the recipients of the Korea Engineer Award for December: Choi Seong-in, Senior Engineer at Samsung Heavy Industries, and Ahn Sung-eun, Principal Researcher at Curiosis.
Choi Seong-in, recognized as an expert in the smart solutions field, contributed to the digital transformation and operational innovation in the shipbuilding industry by developing smart solutions based on various ICT technologies such as 3D, augmented reality (AR), and digital twin (virtual model).
The ‘3D Measurement Automation Solution’ developed by Senior Engineer Choi automates the entire process from data preprocessing to analysis, improving work efficiency by more than 20%. Additionally, the ‘AR-based Production Support Solution’ innovated the inspection and process monitoring of assembly parts, reducing installation errors by over 30%.
Ahn Sung-eun, acknowledged as an expert in the bio-device manufacturing field, developed the ‘Live Cell Imaging System,’ an automatic microscope that observes cell culture processes within an incubator optimized for cell culture environments, enhancing the competitiveness of Korea’s bio-materials, components, and equipment sectors.
The ‘Live Cell Imaging System’ developed by Principal Researcher Ahn is essential equipment in the cell therapy production process, featuring a small precision optical system that simplifies operation, improving the experimental environment that previously required repetitive and time-consuming tasks.
Additionally, it is the only system in the world equipped with a heat control image sensor board, dramatically reducing equipment heat to increase the culture rate of heat-sensitive cells and preventing condensation for long-term monitoring. By fixing the sample and moving the camera, it enables capturing images from various positions, ensuring a stable environment for cells and obtaining enhanced image quality and precise research results.
