Gen.G Esports lifted the 2024 Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) championship cup by defeating China’s LPL team Bilibili Gaming (BLG). This MSI victory marks the first time an LCK team has won since SKT T1 (now T1) in 2017, ending a 7-year drought.

The finals took place on the 19th at the Chengdu Financial City Performing Arts Center in Sichuan, China, where Gen.G emerged victorious over BLG with a 3-1 set score. Gen.G secured the first two sets, with Kim Su-ho’s dominant performance on “Kalista” in the second set, achieving 28 kills. Despite conceding the third set after a fierce 40-minute battle, Gen.G bounced back and clinched the victory in the fourth set after a 47-minute nail-biter. Players like Kim Ki-in, Jung Ji-hoon, and Kim Geon-bu showcased unwavering focus and composure throughout.

The MVP of the series was Son Si-woo, also known as “LeHands.” In a post-game interview, he expressed gratitude towards the fans for their overwhelming support, stating that he was delighted to bring the international championship cup to the fans.

This victory at MSI marks Gen.G’s first championship in the event. Unlike other international tournaments such as the League of Legends World Championship or the esports division of the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games, where LPL teams have dominated in recent years, an LCK team finally claimed the MSI title after a 7-year wait.
