SK Telecom plans to sell three of its subsidiaries and sub-subsidiaries to Samkoo I&C. This decision aligns with SK Telecom’s focus on consolidating its efforts in the telecommunications and AI sectors by shedding non-core businesses.
According to industry sources on the 26th, SK Telecom will sell its subsidiary SK Communications, F&U Credit Information, and sub-subsidiary SK M&Service to the outsourcing company Samkoo I&C. The specific scale of the sale has not been disclosed.
SK Communications operates the portal ‘Nate’ and the messenger service ‘NateOn.’ Although it was once famous for services like Cyworld, it struggled in the mobile era, posting an operating loss of 8.6 billion KRW last year. Since October, SK Group has been working on selecting a lead manager for the sale of SK Communications. F&U Credit Information has been responsible for customer service, overdue management, and debt collection for SK Telecom. SK M&Service operates a corporate welfare platform called ‘Benefia.’
An SK Telecom representative stated, “We decided to sell the three subsidiaries and sub-subsidiaries to focus on the telecommunications and AI businesses. Even after the sale, we plan to continue business collaborations with the three companies.”
