Korean researchers will participate in the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025, the world’s largest mobile exhibition held in Barcelona, Spain, to showcase the latest research outcomes in next-generation 6G, satellite communications, and defense 5G networks.

ETRI announced on the 28th that it plans to display its latest research outcomes at the MWC 2025 exhibition held from March 3-6 (local time), to promote Korea’s cutting-edge network technology globally and expand collaboration with global research institutions and companies, leading the forefront of digital innovation.

At this exhibition, ETRI will unveil next-generation 6G mobile communication and network technology, satellite IoT-NTN (Non-Terrestrial Network) technology, and 5G network trust interlocking technology for defense, proving South Korea’s technological prowess on the global ICT stage.

ETRI is developing next-generation 6G mobile communication and network technology targeting commercialization by 2030. This 6G technology offers speeds over 10 times faster than current 5G, surpassing the low-latency limits of 5G radio areas, enabling high-speed, immersive services on Internet-scale wide area networks.

Such technology is expected to become a core essential infrastructure for various ultra-high-speed immersive interactive services in the future 6G era, including metaverse, XR, autonomous driving, urban air mobility (UAM), smart factories, and remote medical care and surgery.

ETRI will also showcase the satellite IoT-NTN (Non-Terrestrial Network) technology that extends networks not only on land but also over oceans and in the air.

The key to this technology is providing uninterrupted IoT services across the globe utilizing low-orbit small satellite clusters, allowing for stable internet and IoT services in regions where existing mobile networks do not reach, such as polar areas, mid-ocean, and remote locations.

In the defense domain, 5G trust network technology will also be introduced. The Defense Trust Mobile Network (M-TMN) utilizes commercial 5G networks to support real-time data sharing and secure communication during military operations.

This technology includes deployable defense mobile edge computing (MEC), defense-specific mobile core networks, and AI-based network quality analysis functions.

ETRI plans to showcase Korea’s cutting-edge network technology at MWC 2025 and strengthen collaboration with global ICT companies and research institutions.

The exhibition booth will offer a hands-on experience of the real implementation of the technology, and technical seminars conducted by the researchers are also arranged.

Bahn Seung-chan, President of ETRI, stated, “Through this MWC, we will prove to the world that Korea possesses the technological capability to lead the future network industry,” adding, “We will continue innovative R&D in 6G, satellite IoT, and defense 5G network areas to establish ourselves as a global ICT powerhouse.” Reported by Goo Bon-hyuk.
