**[MWC2025] New 5G Network Infrastructure Product Line Announced**
**Outposts Rack, Outposts Server Announced**
**Official Launch by End of Year… Pilot Projects with Telefónica and Orange**
[Edaily’s Kim Hyun-ah reports] Amazon Web Services (AWS) has introduced its new network solutions, AWS Outposts Rack and AWS Outposts Server, at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025.
These products are designed to help telecom companies support 5G networks and cloud-based Radio Access Network (RAN) workloads more efficiently. They represent a significant advancement in extending the AWS cloud environment to on-premises networks.
**AWS Outposts Rack, Optimized for High-Performance 5G Network Workloads**
The new AWS Outposts Rack is engineered to handle on-premises 5G network workloads that require high performance and low latency. It meets the growing throughput demands of 5G Core User Plane Function (UPF) and RAN Centralized Unit (CU) workloads, enabling telecom companies to expand their networks more efficiently using AWS infrastructure and services.
Particularly, it offers a cost-effective scaling capability to handle high traffic using EC2 Bare Metal instances and high-performance network fabrics.
The AWS Outposts Rack enhances performance based on the 4th generation Intel Xeon Scalable Processors (Sapphire Rapids) and significantly improves security and performance through the AWS Nitro System.
This allows telecom companies to gain flexibility in deploying and managing workloads in various locations while maximizing operational efficiency with cloud integration.
**AWS Outposts Server, Optimized for Cloud RAN Workloads**
The AWS Outposts Server is a solution optimized for cloud RAN workloads, particularly RAN Distributed Unit (DU) workloads. It meets the strict form factor and processing performance required at the edge of 5G networks and was developed in collaboration with Nokia.
This enables telecom companies to enhance the efficiency of 5G networks and deploy cloud-based virtualized RAN solutions more easily.
The AWS Outposts Server also leverages AWS Graviton3 processors to provide high-performance computing options and meet AI inference and edge computing needs. Future collaborations with RAN suppliers will offer additional integrated acceleration card options.
Through this product line, AWS supports telecom companies in building and operating cloud-native 5G networks more easily. Key features include 5G network automation and integrated operations with AWS services, allowing telecom companies to maximize cost savings and operational efficiency. The supported high-performance network infrastructure is expected to accelerate innovation in next-generation 5G networks.
**Official Launch by End of Year… Pilot Projects with Telefónica and Orange**
Dave Brown, AWS VP of Computing and Networking, stated, “With the AWS Outposts product line, telecom companies can extend the AWS cloud environment to the edge of the 5G network and manage the entire operation from the AWS cloud,” adding, “AWS Outposts provides essential infrastructure that supports the performance and flexibility of 5G and next-generation networks.”
Both AWS Outposts Rack and AWS Outposts Server aim for official release by the end of 2025. Telefónica, Orange, and DU Networks will be starting pilot projects for testing and validation later this year.
