17 local governments unite for aerospace development… Launch of a convergence council

(Seoul=Yonhap News) Reporter Cho Seung-han: The Korea Aerospace Administration announced that it held the ‘National Local Governments Aerospace Convergence Consultation Group Inauguration Ceremony’ with the Korea Aerospace Industries Association at the Korea Press Center in Jung-gu, Seoul, on the 18th.

The consultation group was established as part of the Aerospace Administration’s plan to develop an aerospace cluster. It aims to understand the current status of aerospace infrastructure established by each local government, analyze regional advantages, and derive development plans for the aerospace industry.

The group includes local governments from 17 cities and provinces nationwide, as well as national technoparks, the Korea Aerospace Research Institute, and the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute—among other government-funded research organizations.

During the inauguration ceremony, the schedule for promoting the aerospace cluster and the aerospace projects of each local government were introduced, and all 16 metropolitan municipalities, except Chungbuk, participated.

Jung Hye-kyung, Director of the Aerospace Industry Policy Division at the Korea Aerospace Administration, stated, “We will actively seek ways to coexist and develop with local governments and their communities through continuous interest and support from the central government.”

Kim Min-seok, Vice President of the Aerospace Industries Association, commented, “For our country, a latecomer in the new aerospace era, it is essential to pioneer and dominate new markets by converging aerospace technology with future core industries such as semiconductors, AI, energy, and mobility.”
