Today marks the third day of the parliamentary confirmation hearing for Lee Jin-sook, the nominee for the chairperson of the Korea Communications Commission. The reason cited for the insufficiency of the nominee’s explanatory materials is that they are not adequate. The opposition party has also proposed impeachment proceedings against the acting chairperson of the Commission, raising the possibility of an unprecedented situation where there is no single chairman in the Commission.

This is Cha Soon-woo reporting.

[Report]
The confirmation hearing for Lee Jin-sook, the nominee for the chairperson of the Korea Communications Commission, has been intense for two days.

Choi Min-hee / Chairperson of the parliamentary committee (Yesterday):
“Have you observed such behavior mocking the committee? Apologize. To me.”

Lee Jin-sook / Nominee for the chairperson of the Korea Communications Commission (Yesterday):
“Are you telling me to apologize because you are uncomfortable, Mr. Chairman?”

The opposition party has extended the originally planned two-day confirmation hearing for another day until today.

It is unusual for confirmation hearings for ministers or minister-level nominees to last for three days.

The opposition party has raised concerns about the nominee’s failure to submit adequate corporate card records during her time as the CEO of Daejeon MBC.

Ro Jong-myeon / Member of the parliamentary committee (Yesterday):
“We are watching you closely. You should be sorry if it’s revealed!”

Lee Jin-sook / Nominee for the chairperson of the Korea Communications Commission (Yesterday):
“I have never had anything to apologize for.”

The Democratic Party has also proposed the impeachment of Lee Sang-in, the acting chairperson of the Korea Communications Commission.

Lee Sang-in is reportedly planning to resign voluntarily, but if this happens, the Commission will face an unprecedented situation with a ‘0’ system, with no chairman and standing committee members.

While standing committee members can be appointed by the President without a confirmation hearing, the opposition party has hinted at impeaching this nominee as well, indicating that the confusion surrounding the Commission is likely to continue.
