“The ruling party harshly criticizes the ‘Trial Suspension Act,’ saying it’s like seeing Choi Hong-man feeling threatened by the prospect of being punched by Lee Jun-seok.”

The leader of the Reform Party, Lee Jun-seok, strongly criticized the Democratic Party’s move to promote the ‘Trial Suspension Act (also known as the National Stability Act)’.

Lee stated at a Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly on the 3rd, “The claim that the Democratic Party is forced to push for the Trial Suspension Act because of the People Power Party is no different from saying ‘Choi Hong-man is threatened by being attacked by Lee Jun-seok.’” He further remarked, “It does not align with common public sense for the Democratic Party, which holds 99% of power, to define themselves as ‘victims of coercion.'”

He further criticized, “The argument that pressing for the opposition’s trial constitutes coercion is used to rationalize the Democratic Party’s legislative monopoly and is similar to the logic former President Yoon Seok-yeol used to justify last year’s martial law.”

Previously, Park Soo-hyun, Senior Spokesperson for the Democratic Party, stated on Facebook that “The Democratic Party has never considered processing the ‘National Stability Act.’ The People Power Party unexpectedly questioned the resumption of President Lee Jae-myung’s trial as if ‘waking from a dream,’ and the court complied, with the People Power Party now clamoring for the resumption of the five major trials daily. Which ruling party would leave such a situation unaddressed?”

In response, Lee said, “The so-called National Stability Act the Democratic Party is promoting is essentially a Trial Suspension Act.” He pointed out, “Just as President Park Chung-hee packaged dictatorship as ‘revitalizing reform’ and the U.S. Patriot Act restricted basic human rights, this proposed bill is merely a name to hide its true essence.”
