(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Oh Gyu-jin = The Democratic Party of Korea’s Special Committee on Judicial Reform will announce a judicial reform plan on the 20th that includes increasing the number of Supreme Court justices and improving the judge evaluation system.
The special committee will unveil the reform plan at the National Assembly on this day and propose three related bills.
The reform plan is expected to include the increase of Supreme Court justices, diversification of the Supreme Court recommendation committee’s composition, reform of the personnel system through improvements in the judge evaluation system, and expanded disclosure of lower court judgments.
The “judicial appeal system,” which involves the Constitutional Court reviewing court rulings, is not included in the judicial reform plan and will undergo a process of public discussion based on individual legislative proposals.
The announcement will be attended by prominent figures such as Representatives Jeong Cheong-rae, Han Jeong-ae, Moon Jin-seok, and Baek Hye-ryun, chair of the special committee.
Meanwhile, the Democratic Party’s Special Committee on Media Reform will also unveil an amendment to the Information and Communications Network Act on this day, which includes measures to strengthen penalties for false and fabricated information.
The Democratic Party has stated its goal to address both the judicial reform plan and the eradication plan for false and fabricated information within the regular session of the National Assembly.
