The price of rice has plummeted, angering farmers… The ruling party and government will announce measures for rice prices today.

On the morning of November 7, public reserve rice purchases for the 2024 harvest were underway at the Agricultural Ecology Garden in Oseong-myeon, Pyeongtaek-si, Gyeonggi Province. The allotted public reserve rice purchase in Pyeongtaek this year amounts to 2,559 tons of regular rice and 52 tons of powdered rice.

(Seoul=News1) Yoonha Shin Reporter = On the 14th, the People Power Party and the government will discuss measures to stabilize rice prices during the harvest season.

The party and government will hold a practical consultation meeting at the National Assembly at 8 a.m. to address rice price stabilization.

Attending the meeting from the People Power Party will be Jeong Hee-yong, the secretary of the National Assembly Agriculture, Forestry, Maritime Affairs, and Fisheries Committee, as well as committee members Cho Kyung-tae, Park Deok-heum, Lee Man-hee, Lee Yang-soo, Kim Seon-gyo, and Seo Cheon-ho.

From the government, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Song Mi-ryeong and Director of the Food Policy Bureau Park Soo-jin are expected to attend.

During the consultation, the party and government are anticipated to announce measures to address the declining trend in rice prices that have been ongoing for over a month since the start of the harvest season.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and Statistics Korea, as of November 5, the nationwide farm gate price for rice was 45,675 KRW per 20 kg, a 2.9% decrease from 47,039 KRW on October 5. This equates to 182,700 KRW per 80 kg, falling short of the farmers’ desired price of 200,000 KRW per 80 kg.
