The President’s Office stated, “The achievements of the G7 have impressed upon the international community the message that ‘Korea is back.'”

President Lee Jae-myung attended the G7 summit in Kananaskis, Alberta, Canada, emphasizing the restoration of democracy in South Korea and marking significant achievements in diplomatic relations. The presidential office stated that the participation clearly conveyed to the international community that democratic Korea has returned.

Wi Sung-rak, the head of the National Security Office, highlighted that most leaders expressed admiration for South Korea’s political resilience in overcoming crises and welcomed the new government. He enumerated successes such as the complete restoration of summit diplomacy, realization of practical diplomacy centered on national interests, and presenting visions during discussions on global issues.

He noted that President Lee’s summit diplomacy was fully restored, establishing rapport and discussing cooperation enhancement with the leaders of major countries, filling a diplomatic void that existed for over six months.

Wi added that President Lee engaged in candid discussions using his affinity and humor, drawing from personal experiences, such as his childhood experiences similar to those of the Brazilian leader and political perseverance shared with the Indian leader.

Moreover, he discussed the successful realization of national interest-driven practical diplomacy, focusing on enhancing trade, investment, supply chains, and energy with other countries during bilateral meetings.

Wi concluded by asserting that South Korea solidified its status as a G7 plus nation and expressed the intention of the Lee administration to elevate summit diplomacy and intensively pursue practical diplomacy centered on national interests.
