**The National Planning Committee Starts Ministry Reports, Gears Up for Policy Formation**
From the 18th, the National Planning Committee, which is sketching out the blueprint for the next five years under President Lee Jae-myung’s administration, will begin receiving reports from various ministries over three days to formalize policy formulation by sectors. This initiative comes despite the administration not having a two-month transition period due to the former president’s impeachment and subsequent presidential election.
Spokesperson Cho Seung-rae stated that after the committee’s inception on the 16th, the initial two days were spent planning its operational structure, with concrete work commencing from the 18th as each ministry delivers its reports.
The committee will be based near the government complex in Sejong City, opting to receive reports there rather than having ministries come forward. This adjustment considers that current officials are concurrently managing ongoing affairs. Depending on the department, some reports, such as those from the National Police Agency, will occur in Seoul.
On the first day, reports will be received from 13 ministries including the Office for Government Policy Coordination, Ministry of Economy and Finance, Ministry of Science and ICT, and more. Over the next two days, additional reports are expected from other entities like the Financial Services Commission, Ministry of Justice, and Ministry of Defense.
This round of briefing could lead into discussions about significant government reorganization and policy directions, reflecting President Lee’s campaign pledges on restructuring financial and prosecutorial functions.
In tandem with these reports, four task forces subgroups—focused on national vision, governmental reorganization, a five-year operations plan, and fiscal planning—will also be launched. Additionally, a citizen communication platform will be opened to gather direct policy suggestions from the public.
