The ‘Innovation Party of Korea’ has claimed that the so-called ‘Prosecution Reform Bills’, which include the Public Prosecution Office and Major Crime Investigation Office bills proposed by the government, need to be amended if there are issues.
Innovation Party leader Cho Kuk, speaking today (the 16th) at the ‘Political Reform Sit-in Site’ in front of the National Assembly main building during the party’s supreme council meeting, noted that citizens who have fought against the Yoon Seok-yeol prosecution dictatorship regime while demanding prosecution reform for years are disappointed by the government bills.
Cho stated, “It’s not just about the removal of the prosecution’s ‘investigation starting authority.’ You must not open the back door for the prosecution while closing the front door,” and remarked, “We need to recognize the meaning behind the prosecution’s silence.”
He further emphasized that the reform of the Criminal Procedure Act, which the government is delaying, is more important, and that specific issues, like whether to grant prosecutors ‘direct supplementary investigation rights’ in addition to ‘supplementary investigation request rights,’ must be scrutinized thoroughly.
Cho also claimed that “the Court Administration Office is at the center of judicial problems,” advocating for its abolition.
He elaborated, “The Court Administration Office is an organization where the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court controls judges by taking command of appointments, budget, and administrative powers,” adding, “It’s time to make a decisive move to abolish the Court Administration Office that supports an imperial Chief Justice and to establish a ‘Judicial Administration Committee’ with citizen participation.”
Cho continued by stating, “Among public officials in South Korea, only the Chief Justice enjoys an imperial status,” and concluded, “As long as Chief Justice Cho Hee-dae maintains his position under the current system, judicial reform remains a distant prospect. For Chief Justice Cho Hee-dae, there is only a choice between resignation and impeachment.”
