The Government’s Visit to Cambodian Crime Complex: ‘What Does It Look Like Inside?’ [News1 PICK]

When visiting the southern Phnom Penh area known as Prince’s Compound, often associated with online scam activities, it was noted that criminals managed to flee before the police could arrive on the scene. A government joint response team, led by Second Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Kim Jin-ah and National Investigation Headquarters Chief Park Sungju, visited the so-called Prince’s Compound in Phnom Penh on October 16, 2025. The visit aimed to inspect the site and understand the current state of law enforcement against crimes targeting Koreans, such as job scams and confinements.

Despite efforts by local police, it appears that criminals received information in advance about the inspection, leaving behind only their equipment when the authorities arrived. The Cambodian Online Scam Response Committee’s deputy director, Bang Nalen, remarked on the unfortunate situation where suspects seemed to have advanced knowledge of the inspection.

Earlier the same day, Vice Minister Kim Jin-ah had a meeting with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet. In this meeting, Prime Minister Hun expressed regret and sympathy over the crimes against Korean nationals and committed efforts to apprehend the fugitives and ensure the protection of Korean citizens in Cambodia.
