The Democratic Party stated, “We will pass a resolution urging for the impeachment trial of President Yoon at the Legislation and Judiciary Committee on the 26th.”

The Democratic Party of Korea (DPK) has announced plans to pass the proposed impeachment resolution against President Yoon Suk-yeol in the Legislation and Judiciary Committee on March 26th. The announcement came during a press briefing on March 25th, following a strategy meeting held at the party’s makeshift headquarters near Gyeongbokgung Palace in Seoul.

Noh Jong-myeon, the DPK floor spokesperson, stated that a plenary session would be convened once the resolution passes the committee. However, the exact timing of the plenary session has not yet been determined. Kang Yoo-jung, another floor spokesperson, mentioned that the session’s timing would be agreed upon in consultation with the Speaker’s office.

A plenary session involves all members of the National Assembly and is used for reviewing significant or contentious matters. Though not commonly used, the plenary session was reintroduced in 2000 after being removed from practice in earlier sessions of the National Assembly. The most recent session took place on April 10, 2023, to discuss electoral reforms.

According to Article 63 of the National Assembly Act, a plenary session can be convened by the request of at least one-fourth of all assembly members, either before or after the main session on major bills.
