The Democratic Party of Korea has called for the resignation and expulsion of Representative Kim Jung-jae from the People Power Party due to his controversial remarks about “fires not breaking out in Honam.”
Members of the Democratic Party on the National Assembly’s Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee held a press conference today (28th) at the National Assembly, stating, “Regardless of how the intention and process of these remarks are packaged, Representative Kim should apologize to the public and step down from his position as a member of the National Assembly.”
They criticized his remarks as “not just regional discrimination, but an inhumane act that tries to use a national disaster and suffering as a tool for political strife, ultimately hindering national unity.”
They further stated, “He no longer has the right to remain as a member of the committee or as a representative of the people.” They urged, “Representative Kim should apologize to the public immediately, take heavy responsibility, and determine his own course of action.”
They also demanded that the People Power Party take responsibility for this incident and impose strong disciplinary measures.
Executive Committee member Jeon Hyeon-hee commented during a press briefing at the National Assembly regarding the controversy surrounding Representative Kim, saying, “Despite the People Power Party not providing any explanation or reflection on Song Eon-seok, the floor leader who made unprecedented remarks that virtually condone civil war murder, another unprecedented remark of similar magnitude has emerged,” adding, “Yet they made a petty excuse by blaming the dialect.”
Jeon stated, “I will promptly push for the expulsion of Representative Kim.”
