The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff had his first coordination call with the Chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, emphasizing the importance of deterring North Korean threats.

In the afternoon, a joint call with the Japanese Chairman of the Joint Staff is scheduled.

Jin Young-seung, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) of South Korea, had a collaborative call with John Daniel Kane, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the United States, on the morning of the 17th.

According to the JCS, Chairman Jin discussed recent security situations and cooperation measures with Chairman Kane. This joint call was the first one since Chairman Jin took office on the 30th of last month.

The chairmen of the South Korean and U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff concurred on the importance of maintaining stability in the security situation on the Korean Peninsula based on the South Korea-U.S. alliance and deterring North Korea’s threats through their combined defense posture.

Furthermore, they agreed to discuss current issues and strengthen the alliance further during the ROK-U.S. Military Committee Meeting (MCM) to be held in Korea next month.

In the afternoon, a joint call with General Koji Yamazaki, the Japanese Chairman of the Joint Staff, is also scheduled. Chairman Jin plans to emphasize the need for cooperation to concretize the results of recent high-level communications, such as the Korea-Japan summit and defense ministers’ meetings, and to maintain the momentum of trilateral security cooperation among Korea, the U.S., and Japan, as well as expand areas of cooperation.
