“(Seoul=News1) Reporter Park Eung-jin = The Military Intelligence Command announced on the 24th that the 19th Defense Security Conference with the theme ‘New Domain Era, Role of Defense Security’ will be held at The-K Hotel in Yangjae-dong, Seoul.
According to the intelligence command, the Defense Security Conference has been held annually since 2003, and this year it focused on preemptively responding to new security threats in the evolving battlefield environment expanding beyond physical spaces into cognitive domains such as cyber and space.
The conference was attended by around 1,000 military officials, key security personnel, and security experts, including Kim Seon-ho, Vice Minister of National Defense, and Seok Jong-geon, head of the Defense Acquisition Program Administration.
A Defense Security Product Exhibition, featuring 21 domestic security companies, was held as a pre-event. In the morning session, Lim Jong-in, the Cyber Security Special Advisor to the President’s Office, delivered a keynote speech on ‘AI Threats and Opportunities in the New Battlefield Environment,’ followed by a special lecture by Ha Jung-woo, Director of Naver Cloud Center, on ‘Strategies for Large-scale AI Warfare and Transformation in Defense Field.’
The afternoon session included presentations on AI security, communications security, and technology convergence, as well as a panel discussion on the Defense Cyber Security Risk Management Framework (K-RMF) and a paper presentation session from Defense and Security academic journals.
Commander Yeo In-hyung stated in his opening remarks, “In the New Domain Era, securing strategic superiority in defense security requires innovative technological development and close collaboration between civil, military, academia, and industry. The intelligence command will play a leading role in effectively applying advanced science and technology to defense security.”
Minister of National Defense Suh Wonsik, through Vice Minister Kim’s encouraging speech, emphasized the importance of proactively devising countermeasures against rapidly advancing security threats in the era of digital transformation and multi-domain operations. He expressed hope that the ideas presented at the conference would greatly contribute to the development of defense security.
