The government announced that it conducted a special joint crackdown on narcotics across multiple government departments for two months starting in October, resulting in the arrest of over 3,900 individuals, with 478 of them being detained.
Additionally, during the same period, they focused on areas such as nightlife districts, tourist locations, and university areas nationwide, strengthening border inspections and seizing 103kg of drugs like yaba, methamphetamine, and marijuana.
The government also highlighted major achievements, such as blocking over 10,000 online posts related to drug distribution on platforms like the dark web and Telegram, apprehending around 1,000 individuals involved, and tracing and capturing overseas supply networks through international cooperation.
Furthermore, a drug policy meeting chaired by Yun Chang-ryul, head of the Office for Government Policy Coordination, decided to begin drug inspections on mail packages starting with parts of the metropolitan area and expanding to major cities nationwide.
The government also stated that it plans to maintain a strong enforcement stance on drug-related operations and expand treatment and rehabilitation programs for drug offenders in the next year.
