“The People Power Party has decided to take on the remaining 7 committee chair positions as part of the ruling party’s share of the 18 standing committees in the National Assembly. The Democratic Party has been managing 11 standing committees including the Legislation and Judiciary Committee on their own, while the Defense Committee and the Planning and Finance Committee have been closed for maintenance.”

“Chu Kyung-ho, the floor leader of the People Power Party, announced after the parliamentary meeting on the 24th at the National Assembly in Yeouido, Seoul, that they will accept the 7 committee chair positions, stating, ‘Seeing how the 11 standing committees dominated by the Democratic Party are being operated to their liking, it is evident that the remaining 7 committees will also be used solely for political disputes.'”

“He added, ‘If even the standing committees responsible for national security, future food sources, and the country’s finances are molded to the Democratic Party’s liking, the resulting damage will fully return to the people.'”

“He emphasized, ‘While the major opposition party is engrossed in the competition with Lee Jae-myung and the loyalty battle, the People Power Party will work for the people. We will return the National Assembly back to the people’s assembly, not Lee Jae-myung’s assembly. We will work tirelessly for the livelihoods of the people.'”

“Previously, Chu Kyung-ho expressed his intention during the parliamentary meeting to step down from his floor leader position taking responsibility for the failed negotiations on the party’s composition.”

“Earlier, the Democratic Party, the Innovation Party, and the Reform Party convened a plenary session on the 10th and elected the chairpersons of the 11 standing committees. In opposition to this exclusive allocation of chairperson positions in the National Assembly, the People Power Party conducted the 22nd National Assembly legislative activities through ‘special committee politics’ by operating their own special committees instead of participating in the standing committees.”
