Prime Minister Han: “Today is Halloween… Thoroughly inspect the safety of crowded events.”

**Chaired Meeting on State Affairs: “Focused Promotion of Tailored Measures for Electric Vehicle Fires”**

Prime Minister Han Duck-soo is delivering an opening speech at the meeting on state affairs held at the government complex in Jongno-gu, Seoul.

On the 31st, Prime Minister Han Duck-soo stated, “Today is Halloween, and events like next week’s Busan Fireworks Festival are scheduled for the autumn, where large crowds gather.” He instructed related organizations such as the Ministry of Interior and Safety, the National Police Agency, the Fire Department, and local governments to conduct thorough joint inspections in advance to ensure these events are held safely.

At the meeting on state affairs held in the Seoul government building, Prime Minister Han urged, “Ensure complete safety at crowded autumn events, and establish rapid rescue and emergency systems.”

He further emphasized, “In preparation for winter fire occurrences and their spread, we will focus on tailored measures specifically targeting new fire sources, such as electric vehicles, battery-related facilities, personal mobility devices, and unmanned stores.”

He explained, “According to the electric vehicle fire safety management measures, we will expand the deployment of suppression equipment like mobile water tanks and develop unmanned firefighting vehicles to be deployed on-site by 2025. We will also strengthen safety management standards for lithium battery storage and handling facilities and develop extinguishing agents with high responsiveness to lithium battery fires.”

Furthermore, Prime Minister Han pointed out that “as the digital transformation of ship operating systems accelerates and the use of telecommunication networks between ships and land increases, the possibility of cyberattacks by international and national backing hacking organizations is growing.” He introduced plans to “strengthen maritime cybersecurity management.”

He continued, “We will conduct practical joint public-private exercises to enhance the incident response capabilities of shipping companies and ship operators and raise awareness of cybersecurity. We will support the preemption of international standards and commercialization of domestic technology by expanding the development of domestic cyber security technology and building a verification foundation.”
