A public opinion poll conducted by Realmeter, commissioned by Energy Economics News, revealed that 73.6% of respondents supported the impeachment of President Yoon related to the martial law crisis. The survey was conducted on December 4th with 504 men and women aged 18 and over nationwide. In contrast, 24.0% opposed the impeachment, and 2.4% were unsure.
Regionally, support for impeachment was highest in Gwangju and Jeolla (79.3%), followed by Incheon and Gyeonggi (77.3%), Daejeon, Chungcheong, and Sejong (74.0%), Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam (72.9%), Seoul (68.9%), and Daegu and Gyeongbuk (66.2%).
By age, support was highest among those aged 18-29 (86.8%), followed by those in their 40s (85.3%), 50s (76.4%), 30s (72.3%), 60s (62.1%), and 70 and over (56.8%).
By political orientation, 94.6% of progressives and 71.8% of moderates supported the impeachment, while conservatives were nearly split with 50.4% supporting and 48.0% opposing.
Regarding whether the martial law crisis constituted treason, 69.5% responded affirmatively, while 24.9% said it did not.
This survey was conducted with a 4.8% response rate, using automatic response methods on mobile (97%) and landline (3%) phones, with a sampling error of ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level. Further details are available on the National Election Survey Deliberation Commission’s website.
