(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporters Lim Hyung-seop and Hwang Yoon-gi: On the 15th, President Lee Jae-myung submitted a waiver of appeal related to the court ruling in favor of Nam Yeong-jin, former KBS chairman, in a lawsuit against former President Yoon Seok-yeol for the cancellation of his dismissal. This was announced by Presidential Office Spokesperson Kang Yoo-jung in a briefing on the 16th.
Previously, former Chairman Nam, who was dismissed by former President Yoon in August 2023 for reasons such as “KBS’s lax management,” filed a lawsuit for the cancellation of his dismissal. On the 26th of last month, the Seoul High Court ruled in favor of Nam, stating, “The dismissal was unlawful as the grounds for dismissal were not recognized.”
During the trial, as the administration changed, the party involved in the lawsuit changed from former President Yoon to President Lee, leading President Lee to waive the appeal.
Spokesperson Kang explained, “President Lee respected the court’s ruling that the dismissal was illegal and made this decision to rectify the unlawful actions of the previous administration.”
President Lee also submitted a withdrawal of appeal regarding Kim Yoo-jin, former member of the Korea Communications Standards Commission, who was dismissed by former President Yoon last January and filed a lawsuit that resulted in a victory in the first trial, Spokesperson Kang reported.
Spokesperson Kang stated, “The Lee Jae-myung administration will continue to correct previous wrongful actions based on the law.”
