President Lee appoints Kim Min-seok as Prime Minister… Prime Minister Kim: “The will of the people is as high as the sky.”

Approval of Appointment Passed by National Assembly, Appointed in About 2 Hours and 50 Minutes

(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporters Ko Dong-wook and Hwang Yun-gi = President Lee Jae-myung approved the appointment of Kim Min-seok as Prime Minister at around 5:36 PM on the 3rd, presidential office spokesperson Kang Yoo-jung announced.

This approval came about 2 hours and 50 minutes after the appointment consent bill was passed by the National Assembly.

As a result, Kim Min-seok will become the first Prime Minister of the Lee Jae-myung administration and the 49th Prime Minister of South Korea.

Earlier, the approval of the Prime Minister’s appointment was passed with 173 votes in favor, 3 against, and 3 invalid votes out of 179 participating members in an anonymous vote in the National Assembly. Members of the People Power Party abstained from voting.

Right after the approval, Kim Min-seok wrote on social media (SNS), “I will regard the will of the people as paramount, implement the President’s direction on the ground, and incorporate the wisdom of lawmakers from all parties into state affairs,” expressing his gratitude.

He continued by stating, “The primary task is to overcome the economic crisis created by the oppressive regime,” and pledged, “As the President’s chief of staff, I will become the early morning Prime Minister who thinks and acts ahead.”
