People Power Party plans to refer Choi Min-hee, Chairman of the Science, ICT, Broadcasting, and Communications Committee, to the Ethics Committee.

The People Power Party (PPP) announced that it plans to file a complaint with the National Assembly’s Ethics Committee against Chairman Choi Min-hee of the Science, ICT, Broadcasting, and Communications Committee. This decision comes after Chairman Choi deprived PPP lawmaker Choi Soo-jin of the right to speak during a parliamentary audit.

Representative Choo Kyung-ho, the floor leader, spoke to reporters today (25th) following a strategy meeting for the parliamentary audit. He stated, “We will undoubtedly file a complaint against Chairman Choi Min-hee with the Ethics Committee,” and added, “We believe this constitutes an abuse of authority, and we plan to proceed with legal action after reviewing the law.”

Yesterday (24th), during the committee meeting, PPP lawmaker Choi Soo-jin criticized Chairman Choi Min-hee, citing data from the parliamentary audit NGO monitoring team, which indicated that Choi’s remarks accounted for 20% of the entire audit. Chairman Choi Min-hee rebutted the claim, saying, “This is an insult masquerading as fact.”

Following this, Chairman Choi Min-hee suspended Choi Soo-jin’s speaking rights, stating that she understood that Choi Soo-jin refused to apologize, leading to protests from ruling party legislators.

Floor leader Choo also expressed his stance on the issue of recommending a special inspector within the party. Regarding a statement by Han Dong-hoon, who said, “The party leader oversees party affairs,” Choo responded, “I have made my role as the floor leader clear,” and added that he would not comment further, saying, “I will have no comment, as I mentioned yesterday.”

When asked if the recommendation for a special inspector is linked to the party’s stance on promoting the board of the North Korean Human Rights Foundation, he said, “I will speak about it when the opportunity arises later,” avoiding a direct answer.

In response to whether a general assembly of lawmakers would be convened for a vote on the special inspector recommendation, he said, “We will act based on the will of the lawmakers,” advising against assumptions, saying, “Don’t jump to conclusions.”
