People Power Party Files Complaint with Ministry of Labor Against Candidate Kang Sun-woo for Workplace Harassment Accusations

Kang Sun-woo, the Minister of Gender Equality and Family nominee, speaks at a personnel hearing held by the National Assembly’s Gender and Family Committee on the 14th. On the 15th, the People Power Party announced that they had filed a petition with the Seoul Southern District Office of Employment and Labor against nominee Kang Sun-woo, citing allegations of workplace harassment and retaliatory abuse of power.

Joo Jin-woo, the chairman of the People Power Party’s legal advisory committee, stated, “Specific testimonies and numerous media reports have raised concerns that Representative Kang engaged in continuous and repetitive workplace harassment towards her staff during her tenure in the 21st National Assembly.” He announced these findings publicly.

He further emphasized, “There are potential violations of Article 76-3, Paragraph 6 of the Labor Standards Act, arguing that workplace harassment and retaliatory abuse are not mere human resource issues but problems of human rights violations within a constitutional institution.”

Additionally, he added, “We plan to review separate legal actions regarding the failure of Kim Min-ki, the National Assembly Secretariat’s Secretary-General and employer, to conduct an objective investigation despite awareness of the workplace harassment situation.”
