The People Power Party argued that the failed agreement between the ruling and opposition parties on reforming the National Pension system in the 22nd National Assembly should be pursued again with a focus on structural reform.
Yoo Kyung-jun, the ruling party’s liaison for the National Pension Reform Special Committee in the National Assembly, stated on his social media that for a genuine pension reform, adjustments to insurance premium rates and income replacement rates, as well as structural reform discussions, should be conducted.
Structural reform involves changing the structure of pensions by integrating the National Pension, basic pension, and various special occupational pensions. Yoo pointed out that the discussions on such matters have been superficially conducted so far.
Within the same party, lawmaker Ahn Cheol-soo also emphasized the need to restart sustainable pension reform in the 22nd National Assembly, criticizing the existing negotiation drafts for only delaying the pension fund depletion without ensuring sustainability.
