Park Chan-dae: “We will uncover the truth about the Chae Hae-byeong incident through a national inquiry… The list of committee members will be submitted on the 27th.”

Democratic Party Floor Leader Park Chan-dae stated on the 25th, “We will uncover the truth behind the investigation interference in the death of Private Chae through a parliamentary probe.”

During the Supreme Council meeting at the National Assembly that day, Park welcomed National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-shik’s announcement the previous Friday to initiate the parliamentary probe into the death of Private Chae.

Park pointed out, “It has been 14 months since Private Chae’s death while fulfilling his military duties due to an incomprehensible order from a superior. Instead of conducting a thorough investigation to determine responsibility, the government and military have obstructed the investigation and were busy concealing the truth.”

He further stated, “Clearly, everything started with the President’s outrage,” and emphasized, “The Democratic Party will transparently reveal the reality of the investigation interference through the parliamentary probe and ensure that those who committed crimes are adequately punished.”

Park also announced, “The Democratic Party will submit the list of special committee members for the parliamentary inquiry by the 27th.”

He criticized People’s Power Party Representative Han Dong-hoon, who argued for the necessity of a ‘Special Prosecutor Law for Private Chae’ during the party convention period, saying, “What is Representative Han, who boasted about proposing a special prosecutor law, doing now?”

Park further accused, “Is it in the DNA of the People’s Power Party, from the President to the ruling party leader, to deceive the public with lies?” and urged them to actively cooperate with the parliamentary probe into the death of Private Chae.

Speaker Woo held a press conference at the National Assembly on the 22nd, stating, “In accordance with the people’s will, we will proceed with the parliamentary probe into the death of Private Chae within this regular session. I ask both ruling and opposition parties to appoint the special committee members for the parliamentary probe by the 27th.”
