Park Chan-dae, the floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, speaks at a party strategy meeting held at the National Assembly on the 12th. Senior reporter Park Min-kyu.
On the 12th, the Democratic Party of Korea increased pressure on Han Dong-hoon, the leader of the People Power Party, to accept the “Kim Gun-hee Special Prosecutor’s Law,” criticizing that “Han, who often speaks of meeting public expectations, is now lost and going backward.” The Democratic Party also stated there is “no justification for the People Power Party to oppose” a parliamentary investigation into the alleged interference in the investigation of the death of Private Chae. They urged cooperation.
Park Chan-dae, the Democratic Party floor leader, said at the party strategy meeting held in the morning, “It is now the turn of Representative Han and the People Power Party to make a decision. This is the last chance to avoid the collapse of conservatism.”
Floor leader Park criticized that “Representative Han had previously declared he would directly propose a special prosecution for the Marine case, but there has been no progress. Also, despite claiming the issue with Madam Kim Gun-hee was a significant matter supported 9 to 1 by the public, he has quietly avoided it,” adding, “This amounts to habitual lying.”
He further remarked, “Despite saying he would only heed the public and resolve issues without evasion, he changed his tone after President Yoon Seok-yeol’s national address, as if merely appointing a special inspector would solve everything,” describing such an attitude as “arrogant and shameless, belittling the public.”
Continuing, he argued, “The nation is being tainted by the shaman First Lady guiding the President, a blind-hearted President’s lies and excuses, and the shallow and false promises of the ruling party leader.”
Park stated, “To follow public sentiment, the Democratic Party has prepared a revised version of the Kim Gun-hee Special Prosecutor’s proposal that incorporates many of the demands expressed by ruling party lawmakers. We will pass this revised bill in the plenary session on the 14th,” emphasizing, “We again express our willingness to seriously discuss if the People Power Party presents a reasonable alternative before then.”
The Democratic Party plans to submit a revised proposal for the “Kim Gun-hee Special Prosecutor’s Law” in the National Assembly’s plenary session on the 14th. The key points include significantly reducing the scope of the investigation and granting the nomination rights for special prosecutor candidates to a third party.
Spokesperson Han Min-su told reporters the day before that “the revised proposal will significantly narrow the investigation’s scope to focus solely on the allegations of stock manipulation related to Deutsche Motors and the nomination and election interference allegations tied to Kim Gun-hee. A third-party nomination method will also be adopted,” he conveyed.
