Park Chan-dae: “First bill of the 22nd term is a subsidy of 250,000 won… Will also propose the Kim Geon-hee special prosecutor law”

“Re-proposal plan for all 8 bills exercising the right to veto… Implies monopolization by standing committee chairs
‘Suspicion of Kim Geon-hee’s luxury handbag’… Directives from the prosecution chief on investigation perceived as trying to cover up special investigation opinions”

Park Chan-dae, who was elected as the new floor leader of the Democratic Party, announced on the 6th that he plans to prioritize the introduction of the bill proposed by Lee Jae-myung, the chairman of the 22nd National Assembly, to provide ‘25,000 won per person for national recovery welfare support funds’.

When asked about the first bills to be proposed once the 22nd National Assembly convenes on an MBC radio show that day, Floor Leader Park said, “I think we can introduce a law to provide 25,000 won in national recovery welfare support per person.”

Earlier, Floor Leader Park had stated during his presentation of his policy stance at the floor leader election on the 2nd that he would start negotiations with the ruling party to secure the supplementary budget for the national recovery welfare funds.

Floor Leader Park also reaffirmed his plan to re-propose the 8 bills on which President Yoon Suk-yeol exercised the right to veto, including the ‘Kim Geon-hee Special Investigation Bill,’ as well as broadcasting 3 laws, yellow envelope law (amendment to the labor union law), grain management law, nursing law.

He mentioned, “We can determine the priority of re-proposing the 8 bills and if necessary, we can propose all bills as a package.”

Particularly regarding the directive from Prosecutor General Lee Won-seok for a prompt investigation into the ‘suspicion of receiving luxury handbags by Kim Geon-hee,’ Floor Leader Park said, “The sudden awakening of the prosecution might be to hastily cover up the special investigation opinions, so we need to watch closely.”

He also said, “The Blue House is keeping an eye on whether to exercise the right of veto regarding the ‘Chae Sang-byeong Special Investigation Act’ that passed the National Assembly plenary session on the 2nd.”

Regarding recent remarks by Hong Cheol-ho, the chief presidential secretary for civil affairs, that accepting President Yoon’s special investigation law could be seen as ‘neglect of duty,’ he criticized, “Hong’s remarks are ‘neglecting duties to the people’ and it shows that the Yoon Suk-yeol administration is still not coming to its senses.”

Floor Leader Park hinted at the possibility, during the negotiation for the composition of the 22nd National Assembly, that the Democratic Party could secure the Law and Judiciary Committee and the Steering Committee, and also consider taking on all chair positions of standing committees depending on the situation.

He explained, “Back when the 21st National Assembly was inaugurated, there was a time when the Democratic Party operated all standing committee chairs due to a lack of agreement between the ruling party and the opposition party,” adding, “If the negotiation for the composition of the 22nd Assembly is delayed, following the principle of majority rule would be appropriate.”
