“North Korea temporarily suspends leaflet scattering actions… We will also resume when South Korea resumes.”

North Korea has announced that it will temporarily suspend sending about 1000 propaganda balloons over two occasions.

According to the Korean Central News Agency, on the 2nd day, Kim Gang-il, Deputy Director of the Ministry of Defense of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, mentioned that “from May 28 to the early morning of June 2, we spread 15 tons of toilet paper trash, which human trash seems to enjoy touching, with various devices over the Korean border area and the metropolitan area” and stated that “we made them experience how dirty and wasteful it is to clean up the toilet paper scattered by the Koreans.”

Kim added, “We will temporarily suspend the action of spreading the toilet paper across the border because it is our concrete countermeasure.” He also said, “However, if the South Koreans resume the dissemination of anti-DPRK leaflets, we will respond by concentrating on spreading a hundred times more toilet paper and trash according to the quantity and number found.”

It is estimated that out of the 3500 propaganda balloons, about 260 in the first round and around 760 in the second round crossed the Military Demarcation Line to the south.
