, The Democratic Party criticized Rep. Ju Jin-woo of the People Power Party in the middle of filibustering the Marine Special Prosecutor Law today (4th) for comparing the death of the Marine on duty to ‘military equipment damage’ as the ‘true face of the pro-national government.’
Spokesperson Choi Min-seok stated at a press conference at the National Assembly, “It is beyond the limit for the Yoon Suk-yeol administration to dismiss the sacrifice of a young Marine as equipment damage after putting them in dangerous places like armored vehicles.”
Spokesperson Choi pointed out, “It’s enraging how lowly the ruling People Power Party thinks of the lives of the people, to the point where they can insult the sacrifice of a young Marine like this. Not only is it a matter of a lack of responsibility as a public official, but it also questions their awareness of human rights.”
He also said, “The Democratic Party will definitely hold the pro-national government, which treats people’s lives as expendable goods, accountable together with the people by thoroughly enforcing the Marine Special Prosecutor Law.”
Park Joo-min, a lawmaker and the head of the Marine Duty Death Investigation Task Force in the Democratic Party, also stated on social media, “Such remarks that cannot be tolerated under any circumstances will stay in our memories and in the records of the National Assembly forever.”
Joo added, “This is not a simple mistake. It has revealed a serious moral flaw that calls into question the qualifications of a member of the National Assembly. The Yoon government and the People Power Party must apologize to the people and the soldiers and discipline Rep. Ju Jin-woo for such irresponsible and reckless remarks.”
Following his statement early this morning during the filibuster against the Special Prosecutor Law, Rep. Ju Jin-woo said, “Let’s assume that an incident occurred where military equipment was accidentally damaged instead of a fatal accident. If you say that you will investigate within a week and confiscate all 8 people responsible for damaging military equipment, and initiate legal action, it would be difficult to accept.”
Immediately after his remarks, opposition party lawmakers on-site protested, saying, “How can people and equipment be considered the same?”
