“The attitude of President Yoon Suk-yeol, who stated that even if a bill passed by the National Assembly, he will exercise the right to reject if there is no agreement between the ruling and opposition parties, was criticized as a negation of the separation of powers and must be corrected,” the Democratic Party pointed out.
Chairman Lee Jae-myung criticized that effectively neutralizing the legislative branch in the Supreme Council is an unconstitutional act that aims to control legislation by the executive branch.
In particular, Rep. Park Chan-dae argued that President Yoon’s exercise of the right to reject the Cheon Sang-byeong Special Prosecutor Act is clearly an obstruction of justice, and emphasized the increasing necessity and legitimacy of a special prosecutor.
Rep. Park added that in the case of the negotiations on the composition of the 22nd National Assembly, it is in line with the principles of law and democracy that the Democratic Party gave the ruling party sufficient time and opportunity if a conclusion is not reached within the legal deadline, reflecting the will of the people and democratic principles.
