Legislative hearing on the impeachment investigation of prosecutor, the first public hearing… Lee Won-seok and Kim Young-chul not attending

The National Assembly’s Legislation and Judiciary Committee will hold the first confirmation hearing for current prosecutor Kim Young-chul, who is one of the four current prosecutors recommended for impeachment by the opposition today (14th). The opposition party plans to investigate allegations against Kim related to the ▲ ‘Jang Si-ho perjury’ case in the national administration scandal, ▲ suspicion of overlooking investigations into Kim Geun-hee’s KOBACONTENTS, stock price manipulation, and Acrobista case, and ▲ abuse of power related to the money envelope case at the Democratic Party’s national convention in this confirmation hearing.

Prosecutor Kim and Prosecutor General Lee Won-seok, who have been selected as witnesses for the confirmation hearing, have expressed their intention not to attend, and it is expected that most key witnesses, including Choi Seo-won (former Choi Soon-sil) and Jang Si-ho’s nephew, will also not be present.

Prosecutor Kim released a statement yesterday pointing out that summoning the subject of impeachment as a witness is unconstitutional and illegal, and denied all allegations presented as grounds for impeachment as baseless.

The Democratic Party plans to continue with confirmation hearings for the other three prosecutors (Kang Baek-sin, Seongnam Branch Chief Prosecutor at Suwon District Prosecutors’ Office, Eom Hee-joon, Bucheon Branch Chief Prosecutor at Incheon District Prosecutors’ Office, and Park Sang-yong, Deputy Chief Prosecutor at Suwon District Prosecutors’ Office) who were recommended for impeachment.
