Regarding the not-guilty verdict in the perjury solicitation trial of Lee Jae-myung, Han said, “I believe there is a high possibility that this will be corrected within the judicial system of South Korea” in response to the criticisms of judges, such as “Kwon Soon-il Season 2,” from within the party.
Han made these remarks when he met with reporters after attending the “People Power Party Junior Lawmakers’ Study Meeting” at the National Assembly Members’ Office Building.
He stated, “There are many aspects of the ruling that I cannot agree with, and many legal professionals may feel the same way,” but emphasized, “Nonetheless, I respect this ruling.”
He continued, “The Democratic Party has expressed that they are very pleased and respectful of this ruling, so they should also respect the ruling on the 15th regarding the prison sentence for violating the Public Official Election Act.”
In response to a question about whether the party is falling into internal strife following recent controversies on the party members’ bulletin board, he said, “The problem lies with those who unnecessarily create non-existent conflicts.”
He refrained from commenting on the re-vote on First Lady Kim Keon-hee’s special prosecutor bill.
Previously, Han stated on his Facebook page right after Lee’s not-guilty verdict, “It is hard to accept the judgment of the first trial’s not-guilty verdict for the perjury solicitation case, where only the person who perjured is guilty, but the one who solicited the perjury is acquitted.”
