Lee Jae-myung: “Veto on Grain Management Act? A ‘Lip Service Administration’ That Reneges on Rice Price Promises”

“The Democratic Party Representative Lee Jae-myung criticized Minister Song Mi-ryeong of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs for expressing the intention to recommend the president to veto the Grain Management Act amendment, calling it a ‘regime of empty words’ that casually retracts its promises.”

Representative Lee remarked, “The promise to maintain the rice price at 200,000 won was a pledge by President Yoon Seok-yeol’s administration, yet they seem to have conveniently forgotten, backtracking on their words. It’s understandable to call this a ‘regime of empty words.'”

He added, “The veto is a unique authority of the president that should be exercised judiciously and sparingly. However, as the president recklessly wields the veto, even ministers seem to think they can casually mention it. At this rate, it won’t be surprising if department heads start bringing up vetoes as well.”
