**Kwon Seong-dong: “Maeun-hyeok is unqualified… Resignation is needed, not appointment.”**
In a National Emergency Countermeasure Committee meeting, Kwon Young-se, the chairman of the People’s Power Emergency Response Committee, urged Mun Hyeong-bae, the acting Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court, to swiftly rule based on each constitutional judge’s decision rather than delaying further.
Chairman Kwon stated at today’s (31st) emergency meeting at the National Assembly, “It is time for the Constitutional Court to make a decision.”
Regarding the Democratic Party’s pressure on appointing Maeun-hyeok as a constitutional judge candidate, hinting at the possibility of re-impeaching Acting President Han Deok-soo, and their warning of a ‘mass impeachment’ by opposition rookie lawmakers, he criticized, saying, “This is a clear act of treason aiming to overthrow the government, and making such statements can be seen as incitement to treason.”
He further commented, “The Democratic Party’s arrogant attempt to threaten the government and press the Constitutional Court to topple the president strengthens the justification for the president’s return to duty.”
Floor leader Kwon Seong-dong also claimed that “the Democratic Party’s strategic greed surrounding Maeun-hyeok’s appointment is fueling conspiracy and incitement to treason,” and requested a prompt ruling from the Constitutional Court.
He continued, “Above all, Maeun-hyeok is unqualified as a constitutional judge,” criticizing his past extremely biased behavior as a judge.
Floor leader Kwon emphasized, “He must decide on his own course of action,” adding, “What Maeun-hyeok needs is not an appointment but resignation.”
