Kim Min-soo, a Supreme Council member of the People Power Party, expressed interest in accompanying Representative Jang Dong-hyuk, who has shown interest in meeting former President Yoon Seok-yeol. On September 3rd, during an emergency Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly, Kim spoke about this possibility. According to Kim, who appeared on YTN Radio’s “Kim Young-soo’s The Interview,” there was a renewed application for an audience the day before. He emphasized that both he, being a Supreme Council member, and Jang, being a representative, need to be cautious in their speech and actions, and such matters are not pursued independently.
Kim mentioned having discussed the possibility of going for a visit if permission was granted, and noted Jang’s considerable interest in the matter. When asked if Jang had explicitly suggested they go together, Kim clarified that although Jang did not specifically propose they go together, he showed significant concern over whether permission had been granted.
Kim further remarked that when access was denied, he received a phone call inquiring about the reasons for the refusal, and noted that efforts were made to understand those reasons. He felt that if permission had been granted, they might have gone together.
Kim conveyed a strong sentiment that Representative Jang was also concerned about the former president, suggesting the possibility of visiting together if permission were granted. Commenting on the denial of visitation pertaining to former President Yoon, Kim criticized it as potentially being a form of reverse discrimination. He compared it to other figures like Jo Kuk, who had 29 solo meetings, Song Young-gil, who had 7, and former lawmaker Yoon Kwan-seok, who had 4, arguing that the frequent allowance of solo visits in those cases but not for Yoon could be considered reverse discrimination.
