Joint Chiefs of Staff from South Korea and the U.S. Hold First Coordinated Call: “Confirmed the Ironclad U.S.-South Korea Alliance”

General Kim Myung-soo, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, had his first cooperative phone call with John Kane, the new Chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, to discuss recent security developments surrounding the South Korea-U.S. alliance.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff stated that in their first call yesterday evening, General Kim and Chairman Kane assessed that “the security situation on the Korean Peninsula is being managed stably based on the solid South Korea-U.S. alliance, and the combined defense posture is being maintained without issues.”

Additionally, the Joint Chiefs explained that “both leaders emphasized the importance of establishing ‘capabilities’ and ‘posture’ to effectively respond to North Korea’s increasingly advanced nuclear, missile, and cyber threats due to Russia-North Korea cooperation.”

The Joint Chiefs further mentioned that “in July, South Korea, the U.S., and Japan will hold a trilateral meeting of their Joint Chiefs of Staff to strengthen the momentum of security cooperation among the three countries.”
