Amid speculation that the decision to expel former People Power Party leader Han Dong-hoon is imminent, Representative Seo Ji-young of the same party expressed, “I personally hope that everyone can cool down and look for a solution to the problem, even if it means doing so tomorrow.”

Appearing on SBS Radio’s ‘Kim Tae-hyun’s Political Show’ on the morning of the 28th, Rep. Seo responded to a question regarding the ‘expulsion of former leader Han,’ saying, “It feels like everyone is very agitated, which I believe isn’t helpful for anyone.”

Previously, the People Power Party’s Ethics Committee decided on the ‘expulsion’ of former leader Han concerning the ‘party member bulletin board’ incident. The sanction will be confirmed through a resolution by the Supreme Council. In the opposition camp, there is speculation that the Supreme Council meeting will decide on the issue the day after leader Jang Dong-hyuk returns. Meanwhile, former leader Han’s supporters are staging rallies calling for the ‘withdrawal of the disciplinary action.’

Rep. Seo commented, “I think the initial step in the bulletin board issue was misunderstood,” adding, “It was an issue that could have been easily resolved when it was brought up within the party a year ago, but it was allowed to drag on for too long.” She implied that if former leader Han had apologized, the problem could have been easily resolved.

She continued, “Although former leader Han recently expressed an apology, it hasn’t been very helpful in solving the problem,” and added, “The continuation of this issue itself is very regrettable to both party members and the public.”

Rep. Seo expressed feeling that the party is currently in a gridlock, and suggested, “I think it would be good for both the Supreme Council members and those supporting former leader Han to take a calm moment.”

Moreover, she stated, “The party audit committee and the ethics committee are all internal party judicial bodies,” and pointed out, “This is not an issue that can be resolved by legal means, and any decision will bring a difficult time for the party.”

As the head of the public relations headquarters, Rep. Seo is also in charge of the party’s renaming. Although she couldn’t disclose the new party name, she shared that “about 34,000 entries were solicited, with ‘freedom’ and ‘republic’ frequently mentioned.”

She emphasized, “Changing a name signifies a new start and has to carry a message of change,” and expressed concern about whether the new name could adequately reflect the demands of the public and especially the party members.
